#1. Background Information

Welcome to the Deta Surf alpha program. Deta Surf is a browser that aims to enhance your digital life by providing a workspace that integrates notes, tasks, wikis, and databases. Inspired by the need to spend less time “getting in a position to think,” Surf seeks to place you directly in the middle of your ideas.

#2. Current State and Progress

Deta Surf is currently in an invite-only alpha phase. We are relying on user feedback to refine the experience and make it great. During this phase:

• Accessing Alpha Features: Users can trigger the in-app onboarding by hitting “Help” → “Open Cheat Sheet.”

• Feedback Requests: We welcome your thoughts on what feels good, what doesn’t, and what you want to use Surf for.

• Known Issues: If you encounter any bugs:

  • Use Shift + ⌥ + ⌘ + R to restart the app.

  • On Windows, if you cannot type, open a non-Surf window and then return to Surf.

#3. Features

#Stuff Overlay

• Adding Stuff: Add websites, YouTube videos, files, and more into Surf by clicking the “Surf” button or dropping a file from your local system.

• Accessing Stuff: Open the Stuff overlay with “Open My Stuff” or Cmd + O.

#Teletype Command Bar

• Usage: Teletype is your universal command bar activated with commands like ⌘ + T for a new tab or ⌘ + E to enter chat.

#Contexts and Desktops

• Contexts: Workspaces that retain your open tabs and arrangements.

• Desktops: Each Context has its own spatial desktop where you can organize items and set backgrounds.

• Navigating Contexts: Switch between Contexts easily; they maintain the state you left them in.

#AI Chat Integration

• Chat with Content: Engage in conversations with websites, PDFs, videos, or entire Contexts.

• Activation: Use Cmd + E to enter chat mode.

• Screen Queries: Press Cmd + Shift + 1 to select a screen area and ask a question.

• AI Models: Supports OpenAI and Anthropic models; configure via Deta’s accounts or input your own API key.

#Experimental Features

• Go Wild: Personalize or extend any webpage using natural language.

  • Modify Page: Change the page inline.

  • Create App: Extend the page with a sidebar app.

• Inline Menu: Access commands like annotating or chatting by highlighting text.

• Subscriptions: Surf can subscribe to and summarize content from your favorite websites.
